WESTERN CAPE – Efforts to rid the Western Cape of firearms in the hands of criminals to threaten the safety and security in our communities yielded success when a suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm on Tuesday evening, 30 April 2024. Members of the Grassy Park Crime Prevention Unit followed up information they received of an armed suspect at a premises in Eland Avenue, Lotus River. A description of the suspect was given and the members searched the premises. The suspect fitting the description was found in the house and a .38 Special revolver with ammunition was confiscated. A 37-year-old man was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ court on Thursday on the mentioned charges.
The South African Police Service in the Western Cape is making an appeal to anyone with information that can lead to the successful confiscation of firearms to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS application to send information anonymously. The safety and security of our communities are our number one priority.r
