Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The Prieska Magistrate’s Court handed down a 15 years’ direct imprisonment sentence to a 22-year-old man for the rape of a minor boy. On Sunday, 21 May 2021 at about 22:30, while the victim was at his place of residence in Plakkerskamp, he went out to the nearby bushes to relieve himself. He was accosted by the suspect, who threatened him with violence and proceeded to rape him. The victim’s older sister caught the accused in the act, and chased him away. The incident was reported to the police and the accused was subsequently arrested. The investigation was led by Sergeant Riaan Van Wyk, of the Prieska Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit. The accused was found guilty and sentenced. He was declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name is to be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders. Ends
