Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – A Crime Intelligence driven tactical operation by Potchefstroom Flying Squad and K9 Unit resulted in the apprehension of a 43-year-old man in Extension 7, Ikageng Location on Tuesday evening, 23 April 2024. Intelligence was gathered subsequent to receiving of information last month regarding petrol card fraud of decommissioned vehicles belonging to JB Marks Local Municipality. The police pounced on the suspect, following investigation conducted soon after one of the petrol cards was used at a petrol filling station in Potchefstroom. At the time of the arrest, the suspect was found in possession of a suspected stolen petrol card, which was seized by police. According to information, the municipality has suffered a loss of approximately R2.8 Million. The suspect will appear before the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 26 April 2024, on charges of fraud and possession of suspected stolen property. The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded members for their speedy reaction that led to the arrest and pointed out that the police will continue to work hard to ensure that alleged perpetrators are brought to book.
