Media Statement WESTBURY – In a significant breakthrough, members of the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) successfully apprehended four individuals suspected of engaging in illegal activities in a known hotspot area. The incident transpired on Wednesday, 24 April 2024, along Main Road, near Florida Street in Westbury. The AGU members were on routine patrol when they noticed a white in colour Toyota Corolla without a registration number. The vehicle, which was occupied by four male individuals, immediately drew attention of the AGU members due to their suspicious behaviour upon noticing the police vehicle. Acting swiftly, the AGU team decided to follow the vehicle and subsequently pulled it over using sirens and blue lights. A thorough search of the occupants and the vehicle has led to the recovery of firearm, along with six live rounds of ammunition. Additionally, a single live round of 9mm ammunition was discovered under the driver’s seat during the search. Upon questioning, the suspects denied ownership of the firearm. However, further investigation revealed that the weapon belonged to a security company based in Johannesburg. The suspects, aged between 27 and 57, were placed under arrest and informed of their rights. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were en route to a hospital to visit an individual who had recently been shot. The injured person is believed to be an active gang member. The AGU Investigators are working diligently to determine the exact motives and connections of the arrested individuals. They will appear before the respective court during the course of the week.
