KIMBERLEY – The Northern Cape SAPS welcomes the rape sentence that was recently handed down to two Calvinia men for raping a minor. On 6 November 2022 at about 22:00, the 14-year-old female victim was on her way home from a tuckshop when she met the two men. The men accompanied her and later dragged her into a nearby veld where they took turns raping her. Janere Rossouw (28) and Randall Snyders(21) were arrested on the same day and remained in custody until they were sentenced. Both the accused pleaded guilty on 19 April 2024 and were sentenced for rape in the Calvinia Regional Court as follows: Accused 1, Janere Rossouw was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, of which 5 years is suspended for 5 years. Accused 2, Randall Snyders was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment, of which 6 years is suspended for five years.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended D/WO Charl Blignaut of the Calvinia Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for his meticulous investigation that led to the outstanding GBVF sentences.
