Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The deployment of committed police members in high risk areas resulted in the arrest of three suspects when they were found in possession of drugs, firearms and ammunition in isolated incidents. Khayelitsha police members, deployed in Site C, conducted stop and search operations near Sakhani Street on Sunday 14 April 2024. Police members noticed an unknown man who changed direction as the members approached. Members swiftly apprehended and searched the suspect and found a 9mm pistol in his possession. The adult male was arrested on the spot on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. During patrols along Nyebelele Street, police members noticed another unknown man who became restless when he saw the patrol vehicle. The members approached the man and searched him upon which they confiscated a loaded firearm found in his possession. The 31-year-old male was detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated intervention, police members attached to the Anti-Economical Infrastructure Task team, led an intelligence driven operation in an informal settlement in Houtbay in the early hours of Monday 15 April 2024. Upon arrival at the identified residential premises, they entered the premises where they caught a 39-year-old man in the act, processing drugs into smaller packages for the purpose of selling it to potential buyers. Further investigation led them to the discovery of an undisclosed amount of cash. Police officers have detained the male on a charge of dealing in drugs. Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Khayelitsha and Wynberg Magistrate’s Courts on the mentioned charges. Ends
