Media Statement POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service in Botlokwa under Capricorn District organised a mass prayer event as part of seeking divine intervention in the fight against crime. This follows the prevalent crimes affecting the community of Botlokwa. The event, held on Friday 12 April 2024 at Ramokgopa Stadium in GaRamokgopa village, brought together community members, religious leaders, and law enforcement officials in a unified effort to combat crime through spiritual intervention. The Station Commander of SAPS in Botlokwa, Lieutenant Colonel ES Magoa, when rendering the purpose of the event, highlighted the importance of partnership policing in the fight against crime, which the prayer session focused on bloodshed, gender-based violence, drugs and substance abuse, road fatalities, peace and unity, peaceful elections, and leadership. The event was supported by the delegation of Molemole Local Municipality, led by the Speaker Cllr Dikeledi Matlou, Ramokgopa Royal Council, Capricorn District Commissioner Major General Lesiba Mashilo, Station Commander of SAPS Morebeng, Lieutenant Colonel Phooko, other SAPS members including brass band, stakeholders such as Traffic Department, SASSA, Social Development, traditional leadership, Spiritual Crime Prevention, Local Community Policing Forum, Young Civilians on Patrol, joined by the main sponsors Liberty and Noko Funeral Parlour. The District Commissioner, Major General Mashilo also addressed the attendees. He stressed the pivotal role of spiritual intervention in the fight against crime and that it is high time the community members within Botlokwa policing area stand against crime and reclaim their streets from criminals by working closely with the police as they strive to create a crime-free society. The event was a huge success as participants, led by Spiritual Crime Prevention Chairperson, Pastor TT Nyirenda, joined in prayer for the safety and well-being of all citizens, especially those vulnerable to crime. Special prayers were also offered for guidance and protection of law enforcement officers as they work tirelessly to uphold peace and justice.
