Media Statement BLOEMFONTEIN – The SAPS Search and Rescue team retrieved the body of an unknown African male drowning victim from the Dynamite [Quarry] dam situated between Witherow Avenue and Sonneblom Street in Heidedal Police Station precinct. A goose hunter alerted the police of a body floating in the dam and the Search and Rescue team was summoned to the scene on Thursday 11 April 2024 at about 16:00. The retrieved body is of an African male estimated to be in his late thirties; the deceased has a name “LEBAMANG” tattooed on his left arm. He was wearing a blue pair of jeans and top with “CUT” embroidery. An Inquest docket was opened at Heidedal Police Station. Anyone with information that can assist the police to identify the deceased and trace his family is requested to contact Lieutenant Colonel Itumeleng Pule at 071 606 5715 or Captain Steve Masolane at 082 301 2834.
