Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – Mbuyiseli Ntanjana (60), a taxi boss, appeared before Libode Magistrates’ Court on 12 April 2024 facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Ntanjana was arrested during a disruptive operation comprising of the Mthatha based Serious Organised Crime Investigation of the Hawks and Tactical Response Team (TRT) in the early hours of 12 April 2024. On Friday 12 April 2024 at approximately 03:00 in the morning, the intelligence driven operation proceeded to a certain homestead at Ngolo Location, Libode where the suspect, Ntanjana was allegedly having in his possession an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The team executed a search warrant which was authorised for his residence. On their arrival, Ntanjana was inside his premises during the time. Upon searching, the team discovered a 9 mm Norinco pistol with the serial number filed off with live rounds of ammunition inside the suspect’s bedroom. The pistol and the ammunition were confiscated. Ntanjana made his first court appearance at Libode Magistrates’ court on 12 April 2024 and the case was then remanded to 16 April 2024 for formal bail application as well as legal representation. He is remanded in custody. The Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya commended the implausible efforts by the joint team for making sure that the suspect is brought before Lady Justice to face the full might of the Law. He further praised the determination and dedication showed by the combined team in arresting the suspect. Ends
