Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Police in Limpopo have confiscated mining equipment that were found abandoned at illegal mining sites and apprehended suspects for contravention of Immigration Act. On Tuesday, 09 April 2024, Police in Capricorn District during the execution of disruptive Operation Vala Umgodi, confiscated mining equipment at a certain farm outside Malipsdrift. It reported that illegal miners fled the scene upon noticing the arrival of the Police. The Police managed to confiscate mining equipment that included two power generators, a jackhammer, two shovels and two electrical cables. In addition, six suspects were arrested in various districts on Tuesday, 09 April 2024, for contravention of the Immigration Act during the execution of the disruptive operations. The suspects are expected to be processed by Immigration officers for deportation back to their countries of origin. In another incident, three suspects were arrested for various offenses ranging from possession of illicit cigarettes, dealing in liquor without a permit and trading in counterfeit goods. These suspects are expected to appear before various Magistrate’s Courts soon in the week. Ends
