Media Statement POLOKWANE – The high-density Operation Shanela commonly known as “Kukula” conducted by the multi-disciplinary forces across Limpopo province from 01 until 08 April 2024 led to the apprehension of 303 suspects in connection with various offenses. The high-density Operation Kukula is being intensified through regular roadblocks, stop and searches and the tracing of wanted suspects to ensure the safety and security of citizens across the province. The police made significant confiscations that comprise of 28 packets of tobacco products worth thousands of rands, recovery of two motor vehicles, two firearms as well as ammunition, 38 items of counterfeit goods, three dangerous weapons, (48,3) litres of alcoholic beverages and the closing down of 37 unlicensed liquor premises and the arrest of 15 dealers in the process. The team also arrested 54 for possession of drugs. Moreover, six suspects were arrested for house robberies and one for business burglary, seven for murder and 13 for rape, three for attempted rape, 14 for assault GBH and 12 for assault common during the circulated wanted suspects’ raids respectively in the five districts. Four suspects were nabbed for malicious damage to property, one for under the influence of alcohol and drugs, 27 for contravention of Immigration Act. The team also successfully traced and arrested over 90 wanted suspects during the week under review. Subsequently, 27 scrapyards or recyclers were also visited and 35 operations were conducted by the Tracking Teams and 62 executed by the Detectives Units. The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe continuously encourages the police to safeguard the inhabitants of the province and ensure that criminals are accordingly dealt with as part of crime combatting efforts. The arrested suspects have started to appear at the various Magistrate’s courts across the province. Ends
