Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The Kakamas police in the ZF Mgcawu district, confiscated illicit cigarettes in Kakamas on Monday, 08 April 2024. Police members were conducting routine crime prevention patrols when they spotted a suspicious truck at a fuel station and requested permission to search the truck. The members found cartons of Sahawi and Chief cigarettes valued at approximately R8.4 million rand. The police opened an enquiry case docket and served the driver with notices to provide the original documentation of the purchasing of these goods and confiscated the cigarettes and truck. The public is requested to report any traders suspected of failing to comply with the Customs and Excise Act due to illicit trade in cigarettes and tobacco products to the police. The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola applauded the vigilant police members and reiterated that the police will continue to deal decisively with those who continue to contravene the laws of the Country. She encouraged the public to rate the police efforts in fighting crime by participating in the “RATE OUR SERVICE” online survey to assist the police in improving services. Ends
