KIMBERLEY – Illegal mining and associated criminal activities, were dealt a blow in the Bontekooi informal settlement in Kleinzee, when Operation Vala Umgodi teams, on Saturday, 06 April 2024 disrupted illegal activities. The intelligence driven operation by members led to the arrest of six (6) undocumented Zimbabwean males between the ages 23 and 45 years old. He team also seized tools suspected to be used in illegal mining activities. In Steinkopf, the members of also reacted to information and pounced on a 19 year old female who was found in possession of dagga with an estimated street value of R39 000 and cash believed to be the proceeds of crime. The suspect was arrested and charged for for possession of dagga and is expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate court on Monday, 08 April 2024.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Luntu Ngubelanga applauded the members for their efforts in affecting arrests and for their commitment in eradicating illicit mining activities in the Namakwa District.
