Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has expressed deep sorrow and outrage at the tragic loss of one of the dedicated Community Policing Forum (CPF) patroller, aged 83, who was brutally killed allegedly by his close family member shortly after completing his duties. According to preliminary reports, the elderly man was on his way home from fulfilling his responsibilities as a vigilant CPF member when he was ambushed and fatally attacked. The incident occurred at Shamfana village in the early hours of Thursday, 28 March 2024. Police and Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene where they found the victim’s body lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds. The victim was certified dead at the scene. A preliminary police investigation was conducted, and all the evidence pointed to the two close relatives. All the items taken from deceased were recovered, leading to the arrest of the suspect, who was charged with murder and his immediate relative (32), was charged with defeating the end of justice. Both suspects will appear in Giyani Magistrate’s Court on 02 April 2024. The Provincial Commissioner has extended her deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased during this difficult time. “We stand in solidarity with the CPF and the entire community as we mourn the loss of a brave and honourable member.
