Department of Justice and constitutional development, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the South African Human Rights Commission partner to commemorate Human Rights Month and 30 years of Democracy

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development in partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), will launch human rights month with a lecture focusing on human rights and 30 years of democracy in South Africa. The lecture will take place on 5 March 2024 at 9h30.
The lecture, titled “75 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and 30 years of democracy in South Africa: human rights as an enabler for advancing constitutional democracy,” will feature Justice Dumisa Ntsebeza, Judge of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights who will deliver the keynote address, reflecting on the achievements and opportunities that lie ahead to advance the promotion and protection of human rights in South Africa and beyond.
The event will also be attended by various stakeholders including government representatives, Chapter Nine Institutions, civil society, academia, United Nations officials, and members of the diplomatic community.
