Media Statement NELSPRUIT – A team comprising of SAPS members, tracking company and security personnel collaborated their resources between Friday, 29 March 2024 and Saturday, 30 March 2024. Their teamwork resulted in the recovery of a VW Polo at Calcutta Policing Precinct next to Hoxane outside Hazyview. The vehicle was reportedly hijacked at Mhala recently. According to a report, Matrix tracking company and Spesplan security received information on the location of a VW Polo which was hijacked at Mhala on 23 March 2024. The acquired information was operationalised and the team was led to a certain house where the VW Polo was found in the garage. As the team entered the premises, unfortunately no one was found at home at the time. There are possibilities that upon noticing law enforcement officers, someone could have fled to evade the arrest. Whilst still inside the yard, the astute members did not only recover the hijacked car, but also a .38 revolver as well as live ammunition, grenades, some explosives and a brown bullet vest. The investigation by the team is still ongoing and no one has been arrested yet. Be as it may, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has been overwhelmed by the recovery of the vehicle which was hijacked as well as the confiscation of a firearm with live ammunition. “We are confident that the partnership that exists between the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies can only produce more positive results going forward,” said the General.
