Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Police at Tinmyne in Waterberg District through the long arm of the law, on Friday 22 March 2024, nabbed a 40-year-old fugitive male suspect for contempt of court. According to the information, Eliot Ntseidi Makgamatha (40), has absconded bail conditions by failing to appear before court on Tuesday 05 March 2024 at the Division of the High Court in Polokwane for a series of house robberies and murder cases. The multi-disciplinary forces during their tour of Operation Vala Umgodi have received information about the suspect who absconded and contravened the bail conditions by failing to appear before court, subsequently the team acted swiftly upon receiving information and the suspect was traced and arrested at a liquor outlet on Friday 22 March 2024 at Mahabaneng village outside Mokopane. In addition the members of the SAPS various units such as Public Order Policing, National Intervention Unit in collaboration with the South African National Defence Force have recovered abandoned illegal mining equipment that include, power generators, jackhammers, punch hammers, hose pipe, spades, shovels, a solar battery, chisel and screw drives at illegal mining site in Apel. A total of 47 undocumented persons were arrested between Saturday 23 March and Sunday 24 March 2024 at various police areas of Apel, Mankweng, and Mokopane. The process of deportation of the arrested illegal immigrants by the Immigration Officers is underway. On a separate incident, a 51-year-old male foreign national suspect was arrested for dealing in dagga. He was spotted driving a grey vehicle Nissan GO along R81 provincial road at a vehicle checkpoint during crime prevention technique conducted by multi-disciplinary forces which was aimed to disrupt illegal mining activities in the area of Giyani policing precinct. It is reported that the suspect was found carrying three black plastic bags full of dagga of an estimated the street value of R10 000. The suspects are expected to appear before various Magistrate’s Courts in the week. Ends
