WESTERN CAPE – Corruption between our ranks will not be tolerated as it undermines the rule of law and erodes the trust between the police service and the public. The acting Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Maj Gen PL Voskuil issued a stern warning against the solicitation of brides within ranks and emphasized the zero-tolerance approach towards corruption. This warning follows the arrest of a police sergeant attached to the Laingsburg detective services on 22 March 2024, after he solicited a bribe from a taxi driver in order not to be arrested on 05 December 2023. He asked the driver to pay him R2500 after the vehicle he was driving was circulated in a fraud case in Midrand. He negotiated with the driver and R1000 in cash was handed over to the sergeant. When they returned to the police station the driver and his passenger were released. The matter was reported the Anti-Corruption Unit and following a thorough investigation a well prepare case was represented to the Director of Public Prosecution who issued a warrant of arrest. The suspect is detained and will appear in the Worcester Magistrates’ court on Monday
