WESTERN CAPE – In an effort to build stronger community police relations, Thembalethu Community Police Forum and the local police handed over a house to a senior citizen as part of Human Rights Day celebrations on Thursday, 21 March 2024. Thembalethu police in conjunction with local stakeholders hosted a community engagement which focussed on the rights of senior citizens at Tyholorha Primary School in Thembalethu, George. This event was attended by the Garden Route District Commissioner, Deputy Executive Mayor of George, Thembalethu Community Police Forum leadership, Neighbourhood Watch structures, and Community in Blue. After the initial event the stakeholders descended on a renovated house which was recently destroyed during a fire. The local community police forum, business and community members pulled together and collectively gathered building material; and other resources which was vital in the process to rebuild the house. The house was officially presented to the family on this special occasions which marked Human Rights Day.
Garden Route District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, commended all role-players who made a special effort and contribution to ensure that the dignity of the family is restored. He also thanked the Thembalethu Community Police Forum, led by the Chairperson, Mr Xolani Henge, for their tireless effort to see to the successful outcome of the project.
