Media Statement POLOKWANE – A 38-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the rape of three females including two minors, in Levubu in the early hours of Friday, 15 March 2024 at about 03:00. The arrest followed an incident where four females, aged between 16 and 19, hitchhiked and accepted a lift from an unknown motorist from a liquor outlet in Tsakhuma village to another situated in Luvhone village. The driver told them he was also going to the same place and even offered them a lift back home to Lwamondo village. The three women allegedly enjoyed drinks with the suspect, and they then left with him as agreed. Along the way, he turned into a secluded road while demanding cash from the victims. The victims reportedly gave him the money, but he demanded more. He became aggressive and threatened to shoot them. One of the victim’s screamed for help, and the suspect hit her with a beer bottle, leaving her unconscious. The suspect then raped three female victims, aged 16, 17 and 19. The assaulted victim was still unconscious when the other victim begged him to take her to the clinic. Upon arrival, the victims notified the nurses about the ordeal, and they immediately called the police. The suspect was swiftly arrested at the clinic. The injured victim is recuperating in the hospital while the rape cases have been transferred to the SAPS Thohoyandou Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit for further investigations.
