Media Statement LIMPOPO – Nyadzani Morgan Mavhuso (23) was today, 15 March 2024, sentenced by the Limpopo High Court sitting in Thohoyandou to life imprisonment for the murder of Warrant Officer Mbulaheni Mulanduli (61). It is reported that Mavhuso was detained as per Mutale rape and kidnapping case which occurred in November 2020. He is said to have overpowered the Warrant Officer, stabbed him several times and robbed him of the cells as well safe keys. Mavhuso proceeded to let himself out of the cells and stole money from the safe without anyone noticing. The slain police officer’s body was later found by his colleagues doing routine inspection. A case of murder was then opened for investigation by the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Thohoyandou. Mavhuso was arrested after two days following an intensive investigation. The accused’s bail was successfully denied and has since attended his court appearances from behind bars until his conviction and sentencing. This morning, the accused, Mavhuso was sentenced as follows:
It was further ordered that the sentences meted out in Count 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 should run concurrently with the sentence in Count 1. The accused will serve an effective sentence of life imprisonment. The accused was further declared unfit to possess or own a firearm in terms of sec 103 of Firearms Controls Act 60 of 2000. The Provincial Head in Limpopo, Major General Gops Govender welcomed the sentenced and lauded both the investigation as well the prosecution for excellent work done in ensuring that another cop killer spends the rest of his life behind bars.
