Media Statement FREE STATE – A third suspect, linked to Project Dead Road, has been apprehended by the Hawks’ Bloemfontein based Serious Organised Crime Investigation. He was arrested on 15 March 2024 at his apartment in Bloemfontein. Barend Jansen (57) and Edrick Mlrrison ‘Mafrshall’ Brummer (58) were arrested on 20 February 2024 in connection with the same project. They appeared for bail application in the Tweespruit Magistrates’ Court on 14 March 2024 where they were granted bail, R20 000 for Brummer and R17 000 for Jansen. On 12 October 2021, residents of Thaba Phatswa, east of Bloemfontein, called Hawks officers to an urgent community meeting where they complained profusely about alleged drug dealers in the town. Their main dissatisfaction was the use of mandrax and crystal meth by underage children. Project Dead Road was registered and several operations were conducted. An illegal firearm was also purchased during one of the transactions. The 42-year-old suspect will make his first appearance in the Exelcior Magistrates’ Court on 18 March 2024 on charges of dealing in drugs and illegal dealing in firearms and ammunition. Ends
