Media Statement FREE STATE – On 15 March 2024, Colesele William Ndalose (40) and Moeketsi Edward Koto (32), were sentenced by the Bloemfontein High Court as charged for the murder of a police Constable, attempted murder of another police official and robbery. On 10 May 2022, a group of suspects went to a supermarket in Wepener and pointed guns at the owner. They took cash, beverages and cigarettes before fleeing the scene on foot. Police in Wepener were informed of the robbery and went in search of the suspects. A shootout ensued when suspects realised that they had been cornered. Constable Kananelo Mokgothu (22) was shot multiple times and declared deceased on the scene. His colleague was shot and injured. A case of murder, attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances was registered and handed over to the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Bloemfontein culminating in the arrest of Wendy Susanne Jacobs, Moeketsi William Ndalose and Colesele Edward Koto. Wendy Susanne Jacobs (43) appeared before the Bloemfontein High Court on 03 October 2023 where she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years’ direct imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances. Ndalose was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances, 10 years’ for robbery of firearms belonging to police officers, another 10 years’ for attempted murder and life imprisonment for murder. All sentences will run concurrently. Koto was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances, 12 years’ for robbery of firearms belonging to police officers, 10 years’ for attempted murder and life imprisonment for murder. All sentences will run concurrently. Free State Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Mokgadi Bokaba has applauded the investigating officer who worked tirelessly ensuring that the perpetrators are put behind bars and removed from society.
