Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Efforts to remove firearms from the streets of the Western Cape yielded success on Tuesday, 12 March 2024. Members of the Overberg Anti-Gang Unit received information about firearms at a premises in Hermanus and ensued with a search of the house. While the members searched one of the bags in the room they found two 9mm pistols with ammunition. A 31-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. He will appear in the Hermanus Magistrates’ court once he has been charged. In an unrelated intervention members of Malmesbury police received information from Crime Intelligence about a rifle that is stored at a premises in Basilie Street, Wesbank, and followed up with an operation. The members searched the identified premises and found the rifle hidden under the bed. An adult male was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect will appear in the Malmesbury Magistrates’ court once charged. Ends
