Singer Kelly Khumalo clearly hated the father of her child Senzo Meyiwa and wanted to get rid of him.
Lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda revealed this on Wednesday, 24 January as he read one of his affidavits at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria where five men are on trial for the murder of the former Bafana Bafana captain.
KELLY KHUMALO WANTED TO GET RID OF SENZO MEYIWA
As previously reported by The South African, Meyiwa was shot at the home of his then girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus on 26 October 2014. Kelly’s mother Ntombi, her sister Zandile, Zandile’s boyfriend Longwe, Meyiwa’s close friends Mthokozisi and Tumelo were present when two intruders allegedly entered the home and demanded cellphones and money.
Gininda is under cross-examination in the trial within a trial that seeks to determine the admissibility of confessions allegedly made by accused 1 Muzi Sibiya and 2 Bongani Ntanzi.
On Wednesday, Gininda told the court that both Sibiya and Ntanzi named the Ngathwala Ngaye hitmaker as the person who hired them to kill the former Orlando Pirates captain.
The court heard that after the murder, the Emaweni hitmaker failed to disclose four cellphone numbers to the police, which cellphone analysts then discovered during investigations. Investigations revealed that Khumalo was linked to accused 3 and 4 through a cellphone connection.

“It was further discovered through cellphone analysts that her cellphone memory album has the same photo of a see-through bag containing cash notes and in the exact position or location of Mncube.
“There is no reasonable explanation as to why Kelly will be in contact telephonically with a hitman or killers of her boyfriend and share the same picture of a bag full of money,” Gininda said.
The lead investigator told the court that communication records between Kelly and Zandile show that from as early as 2013, she wanted to eliminate Meyiwa.

In 2023, Kelly’s sister Zandile took the stand and was questioned over the SMSes Kelly had sent her complaining about the dark cloud Senzo had brought into her life.
When asked, Zandile refused to go into details about the type of relationship her sister had with Meyiwa. She insisted that the two were madly in love but had problems like any other couple.
“She clearly hated him and wanted to get rid of him. She further states that she regrets not succeeding in getting rid of him before. Taking into account all these facts, an inference can be drawn that she meant killing him. Cellphone records show that after the incident, she phoned several people from her phone, but no call was made to emergency services,” he told the court.

AFRO-POP SINGER REFUSED WITH PERSONAL BELONGINGS
In May 2023, Meyiwa’s friend Mthokozisi testified that following the incident, Kelly refused to hand over the late goalkeeper’s clothes saying he would tell her in a dream what do with them.
“We were accompanied by police and they spoke to Kelly. She ended up giving them the ID, but regarding to Senzo’s clothes, she said she would not give them. It was Senzo who would tell her through a dream what she should do with his clothes,” he told the court.
In September 2022, former defence counsel for accused 1 to 4 Timothy Thobane cross examined State witness Tumelo Madlala asking him if he and the late goalkeeper discussed policies as he claimed they were close.
In response, Madlala said they did not discuss personal matters such as policies and insurances.
The defence counsel further put it to Madlala that another witness will come and testify that Senzo and Kelly took a life cover together and Kelly was the signatory and beneficiary.
