The leadership and partisans of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), now a constituent party of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has officially endorsed madam Josephine W. A. Davies as a Representative aspirant of Montserrado District 10 in the October 10, 2023 general elections.
The endorsement that was done on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the NPP national headquarters in Congo Town, at an elaborate ceremony brought together thousands of supporters from across the district including the CDC officials among others.
Madam Josephine Davies who is passionate about redeeming Montserrado County District from its incumbent Representative, Yekeh Kolubah recently resigned as Inspector General of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) to enable her contest the District seat inline with President Weah recently issued Executive Order.
Madam Davies during her time at the Ministry was charged with investigating business fraud and abuse as well as responsible for protecting the public by ensuring the safety of Liberia’s food supply and other principal products.
In her endorsement statement on behalf of the party, the NPP standard bearer, Jewel Howard-Taylor lauded Madam Davies for her efforts towards revamping the CDC as well as braving the storm in ensuring that her District is redeem through adequate representation at the legislature.
“The road is long, shaky and challenging, but we are constructively in this together. And that is what matters. Nothing good comes easily; especially the road to parliament is a very rough terrain,” Madam Howard-Taylor who is also the country’s Vice President asserted.
VP Taylor who also bragged that the NPP supports the idea of 30% women inclusion in politics, maintained, “We want to make sure that we have women candidates; and it is because of that the NPP leadership instructed that we work closely with you in this district to make sure that you are successful.”
She then thanked the partisans of the party including the women group, youth, and elders for their support, and called on the aspirant to continue her good working relationship with them as well as with residents precisely the women and youth groups of the district.
Madam Howard-Taylor also challenged aspirant Davies to prioritize the affairs of the young people and women upon ascending to power, noting that for too long young people and women have been the driving force behind the success of politicians, but they are often forgotten when elections are over.
“For each time, these people do the dirty work, and when we ascend, we don’t look back to them. We let them remain in their slumbers, in their difficulties. How can we change society when our young people and women are not educated,” she asked rhetorically.
The NPP standard bearer at the same time also noted that the Coalition for Democratic Change was formed out of sincerity and would do everything possible to ensure that President George Weah is reelected comes October 10.
In remarks, Madam Josephine Davies thanked the NPP and CDC for the recognition and pledged to do all in her powers to promote the coalition at both district and national levels as well as to vigorously campaign and ensure President Weah reelection.
Davies, who also paid homage to VP Taylor as her political godmother, further stressed that her decision to contest the upcoming elections is to ensure that the people of District 10 are fully represented at the National legislature precisely the House of Representatives.
She said for too long residents of the District continue to suffered to get their share of the country’s wealth due to the incumbent “incompetence and inability” to lobby with his colleagues in making sure that development and other basic services are carryon in the District.
Madam Davies maintained, “The time for real change and leadership has come. The mistake that we made 2017 by electing a man who knows nothing about the office he’s occupied will be corrected in October because we will vote him out.”
“We can no longer sit back and see our beloved district being underrepresented as well as become a laughing stock because of our incompetence and inability to do his job. We voted him to represent us and not insult, and suffered us. Enough is enough,” she added.
