This past week has proved to me how weak my strength is. I guess you don’t need a tropical disease to drive that point home but that’s what happened to me. I was weak – and still in some ways am – weak like a kitten. No strength to plan, organize or execute any kind of plan when sleeping is all you are able to do. But thankfully I have a helper and ally because God is my upholder as the Bible tells me:
Behold, God is my helper and ally;
The Lord is the sustainer of my soul [my upholder].
(Ps. 54:4, AMP)
How blessed we are to have a God whose power and willingness to help are bigger than our weaknesses. Since God is my upholder, I can rest. And since he is my sustainer, I can be as weak as I am and know all is well.
God is my upholder
My weakness does not scare God away. He is okay with me not to able to contribute anything but my weakness. My value to God is not in how much work I can do for him but in my being his beloved. It is a blessing to get a reminder of this. So often we think our value comes from being productive, even in God’s kingdom.
No, my friend. Your value is always intact. And you have not been left alone to deal with life. No. God is your helper and ally. He is the sustainer of your soul and he is your upholder. How wonderful is that?
So lean on him today and always. Don’t try to be more than you are. Just bring God all your life, just as it is. Let him be your strength and wisdom. Your life is not on your shoulder when you are God’s child. What a relief, right? We can stop pretending and start praising. God has a plan for us through anything we are experiencing. So let us give thanks and praise even in the midst of chaos. As we know, it is a good starting point for God.
Gracious God,
Thank you for being such an awesome ally.
We surrender to you with our joys, questions, and troubles.
Thank you for being our upholder.
Make something beautiful out of our weaknesses.
Fill us with your strength, wisdom, and grace.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
P.S.
God is my upholder and I don’t have to be more than I am. I can be just an ordinary human being. How wonderful is that? I can’t think of anything better. How about you? Be blessed, my fellow pilgrim. Enjoy your God! He is your helper and sustainer all of your days.
