Prowse reportedly shared top spot with Husnaa Haffeje from Al-Falaah College (Independent Schools) in KwaZulu-Natal.

However, Haffejee didn’t seem within the top 3 of the Quintile 5 matriculants – or every other quintile – with Prowse ending forward of second-placed Simone Anna-Mart Louw from Bloemhof Girls’ High School within the Western Cape with one other Western Cape pupil, Kenneth Janson from Hoer Jongenskool Paarl, in third.

In a video tweeted by Inside Education, Prowse mentioned she was shocked and excited by her outcomes.

Prowse additionally took first place in arithmetic within the nation.

The Western Cape was represented by two learners – in first and third place – for maths, whereas Priyasha Naidoo from Westville Girls High took second place.

  • Jason Frederick De Villiers – Rondebosch Boys’ High School

Like each pupil, Prowse needed to overcome challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic – and cargo shedding – in making ready for her exams.

“In Covid there were definitely sections of different subjects that were neglected, and rightfully so, because you could not get through the whole curriculum, but it meant that from grade 11 and matric, it had to be a lot of work on my own time and a lot of work with the teachers to catch up on those sections that were kind of overlooked. In that part, matric was even busier trying to get on top of everything,” Prowse mentioned.
