Hundreds of age-group athletes from across the North West will this weekend be vying for spots to represent the province at national events to be held in July.
The athletes for both the provincial and national games will be supported by the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (Acsr).
The provincial selections will take place in Potchefstroom from June 3 – 4. Only 68 girls and 38 boys will qualify to represent the Province in Stellenbosch for the National School Winter Games.
The Games in Stellenbosch will run from July 3 – 7, featuring chess Under 15 and Under-17 Boys and Girls, Volleyball (same age groups) and netball for Under-14’s, Under 16 Deaf players and Under 19 players with physical disabilities.
The National Winter Games will continue in Benoni from July 11-16. Codes featured, from Under-15 to Under-19, are rugby, hockey, Jukskei, Kho-kho, Tennis, Wheel-chair tennis and football for the abled-bodied and disabled players. Around 200 North West players will participate in the Gauteng leg of the Games.
