Tragedy Strikes Ahead of Elections: ActionSA Demands Justice Over Murder of KZN Activist and Arson Attack

In a shocking wave of pre-election violence, political party ActionSA has called for an urgent police investigation following the brutal murder of an activist and a suspected arson attack on a candidate’s home in KwaZulu-Natal.

The incidents occurred just days before the local government elections, raising severe concerns over the safety of political figures and volunteers in the region.

According to a media advisory released by the party, Victoria Ntombi Mkhize—an active ActionSA supporter and the mother of the party’s Ward 11 candidate in the Maphumulo Municipality—was brutally killed outside her home over the weekend. Preliminary reports state that Mkhize was stabbed with a knife and strangled to death.

ActionSA KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Chairperson, Zwakele Mncwango, expressed deep concern over the targeted nature of the killing, noting that Ms. Mkhize was a regular attendee of party meetings and a dedicated activist.

A criminal case has been registered under SAPS.

In a separate weekend incident, the home of ActionSA’s Ward 61 candidate in the Umbayi area of Tongaat was completely destroyed by fire.

The party has leveled serious allegations against the local authorities, claiming that the Tongaat Police Station initially refused to open a case regarding the arson.

Mncwango confirmed that provincial leadership is visiting both the affected family and the police station today to investigate why the incident was reportedly denied registration.

While ActionSA has stated it cannot definitively speculate on the motives, the timing of these attacks right before citizens head to the polls has put the political climate under intense scrutiny.

“We call on SAPS to urgently investigate both incidents and ensure the safety of political candidates, activists, and their families,” Mncwango stated. “Political differences must never lead to violence or loss of life.”
