JUSTICE PREVAILS: RAPIST SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The South African Police Service in North West has welcomed the successful prosecution and sentencing of Tshepiso Tau (34), who was sentenced to life imprisonment following the rape of a victim who was 16 years old at the time of the incident.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 12 February 2022.

The court heard evidence that the victim was attending a cultural dance festival at Madiba Makgabana Village with her friends.

While they were still at the festival, her friends disappeared.

Tshepiso promised to accompany her home, as she was scared to walk alone. While they were passing the bushes, Tshepiso dragged her into the bushes and raped her.

She reported her ordeal to her mother when she arrived home.

The matter was reported to Mmabatho Police Station for investigation.

Tshepiso Tau appeared before the Molopo Regional Court and was found guilty of rape and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The court further declared him unfit to possess a firearm and ordered his name to be entered in the National Sexual Offences Register.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams, commended the investigating officer, Detective Constable Itumeleng Tshegetso of the Mmabatho Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) and the Prosecutor, Advocate Ofentse Diseko, for their outstanding collaboration and hard work, which contributed to the accused being sentenced to life imprisonment.
