Frosler calls on Chiefs to gird up and chase Carling Cup glory after Confed Cup heartbreak

Kaizer Chiefs have barely had time to dry their tears, and now Reeve Frosler says silverware is the only way to heal the pain.

Amakhosi were knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup on penalties last Friday, despite beating Red Arrows 1-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium to level the tie at 1-1. Now they face TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, at 1pm in the Carling Knockout Cup, a chance to chase a trophy almost immediately.

“It’s disappointing falling out of the CAF competition,” Frosler told kaizerchiefs.com. “The guys did well to try and get back after the first leg in Zambia but it just wasn’t meant to be. But now our full focus goes onto the Carling Cup.”

A win would send Chiefs into the quarterfinals, and Frosler believes it could give the team the momentum to deliver the success the club wants and the supporters dream of. But he knows the Rockets will not be easy.

“TS Galaxy have been a tough opponent for us in the last few games,” Frosler admitted. “But it’s a cup competition and cup games are always different.

“We’ll look to put our best foot forward on Tuesday and try and go all the way in the Carling Cup. We have ambitions of wanting to win a trophy and this gives us an opportunity to try and do that.”

The Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates is looming on Saturday, but Frosler insists there will be no looking ahead.

“Obviously, we’ve got the Derby coming up on the weekend as well, but our attention is on TS Galaxy now and will use the game as preparation for Saturday.”

With pressure mounting on Fernando Da Cruz, Tuesday night is a chance to start rebuilding. Chiefs need a win.
