Pirates suffer huge blow with Sebelebele out for six weeks
Orlando Pirates’ hectic three-front campaign has just taken a nasty turn. Pirates are currently playing in the Betway Premiership, the Caf Champions League and will begin their Carling Knockout Cup defence next week.
But it seems they will have to do without one of their standout performers Kamogelo Sebelebele for a while. The defender cum winger is set to miss at least six weeks after suffering a meniscus injury, and the damage has already required surgery.
The 24-year-old utility man was stretchered off just before half time in the MTN8 final defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, and the early fears have now been confirmed.
Although the Buccaneers are yet to officially comment on the setback, it has emerged that Sebelebele has gone under the knife and is expected to return in around six weeks.
The timing could hardly be worse. With Pirates juggling league, cup and continental commitments, every body counts, and Sebelebele’s versatility made him a valuable option for the coaching staff across multiple positions.
Now the squad depth will be tested at the worst possible moment, with fixtures piling up and no room for error.
In his absence, Bulelani Sigomoshe has stepped up and the former Milford FC player has done well so far in the two games he has played.
Pirates will however be hoping the recovery goes smoothly, but the next six weeks suddenly look a lot tougher.
