WHy Galaxy Boss Ordered Social Media Team to Delete Pirates “Bribe” Graphic
TS Galaxy’s banter just crossed the line. And the chairman noticed.
Tim Sukazi has revealed he called his social media team in for a dressing-down after they posted an image of an Orlando Pirates official, Thandi Merafe chasing a Galaxy player carrying an envelope, a not-so-subtle bribery joke.
“When I looked at that, then I called them in and said explain yourself,” Sukazi said on Sports Nights Amplified on Metro FM.
Their answer? It was all about a past scoreline.
“They said, ‘Chairman, do you remember when Pirates beat us 6-0 and it was said they had paid us?'” Sukazi recounted.
The team insisted the image simply played on what fans already believed.
“‘Of course, that’s what people think. We didn’t say it as it is. That’s what they think.'”
Then came the defence of the strategy itself.
“‘When you do banter, Chairman, you must play on what is in their minds. So that when we go into this match, the match is talked about a lot. It becomes a big game.’,” further explained Sukazi.
But Sukazi wasn’t buying it. “I said, ‘But please remove it.’ So they removed it. They said, ‘But Chairman.’ I said, ‘Here you went overboard.'”
The post came ahead of Tuesday’s meeting between the sides. Pirates won that one 3-0.
The graphic is gone. The lesson, according to the boss, is that there’s banter, and then there’s accusations dressed up as jokes.
