PSL confirms Carling Knockout draw procedure
The draw procedure for the Carling Knockout Cup Last 16 has been outlined, with all 16 Betway Premiership clubs set to discover their opponents for the opening round.
The draw will determine both the fixtures and which teams play at home or away.
The process will use three pots, with the clubs divided into seeded and unseeded teams.
Pot A: Seeded clubs
This pot will contain the eight teams that finished in positions one to eight in the previous Betway Premiership season.
Pot B: Home and away draw
This pot will initially be empty. It will be used to determine which team plays at home and which plays away in each fixture.
Pot C: Unseeded clubs
This pot will contain the remaining eight teams.
How the draw will work
A ball will first be drawn from Pot A and placed, unopened, into Pot B. A ball will then be drawn from Pot C and placed, also unopened, into Pot B.
The first ball drawn from Pot B will determine the home team, while the second will determine the away team.
The process will be repeated until all eight Last 16 fixtures and their home-and-away designations have been decided.
Fans will be eager to see whether the draw produces heavyweight clashes in the opening round or gives some of the competition favourites a more favourable route to the next stage.
