Kwathema Woman Ntombifuthi Rumo Found Alive After R40,000 Ransom Demand
Ntombifuthi Rumo, who disappeared while travelling from KwaThema to Duduza in Ekurhuleni, was found alive on Saturday night after her family received a R40,000 ransom demand.
Rumo reportedly boarded a taxi before unknown men contacted her relatives, claiming to have kidnapped her. The family received distressing videos and a voice note instructing them to deposit money into her account before collecting her with an ambulance.
She is currently hospitalised with severe bruising after allegedly being tortured by her captors.
Community members reportedly helped secure her return, with relatives accusing police of providing little assistance.
KwaThema ward councillor Njabulo Mbonani criticised the police response, while community leaders called for stronger action against kidnappings and gender-based violence.
Police have yet to confirm the circumstances of her release or whether any arrests have been made.
