Pirates assistant coach Jacobs talks war as MTN8 history beckons
Orlando Pirates assistant coach Rayaan Jacobs insists the Buccaneers have left nothing to chance as they prepare for another shot at MTN8 glory.
Pirates face Mamelodi Sundowns at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday at 6pm, with the Soweto giants chasing a fifth consecutive MTN8 title.
Despite reaching the final for the fifth straight season, Jacobs says Pirates are treating the occasion with the seriousness it deserves.
“Look, as always, we take this trophy absolutely serious,” he says. “We are so privileged to be in this tournament and especially in the final for the fifth consecutive season.
“We do not take that lightly. There is a lot of pride at stake here, to be honest. There is a big opponent in front of us. But we go to the game as champions, not only of the MTN8 but of the entire PSL.”
Jacobs believes the groundwork has already been done and says the players now need to deliver when it matters most.
“With regards to the preparations, we have had a good two weeks,” adds Jacobs. “While the Bafana boys were away, we did a lot of work with the other players. We feel we are fully prepared.
“We will go there and do our best, and if everybody performs the way they have been in preparation, we will go home with the fifth title.
“We are excited about the game and I can guarantee that we have left no stones unturned in our preparation.”
With history within touching distance, Jacobs says Pirates are ready for the challenge — but know Sundowns stand between them and another piece of silverware.
