POLOKWANE: Limpopo musician Lehlohonolo Katlego Chauke, popularly known as Shebe Maburna, is back before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court to launchl his fifth bid for bail.
Chauke remains incarcerated as an awaiting-trial prisoner while facing, 21 charges
His latest bail application is being brought on new facts, with his legal representatives, Sikhwari Attorneys Incorporated, expected to place a supplementary affidavit before the court in support of the application.
The defence is expected to challenge allegations relating to the two alleged victims in the attempted murder charges, arguing that the allegations are based on hearsay and that the alleged incidents did not occur.
Chauke’s lawyers are also prepared to call a witness in support of their case.
The defence is expected to argue that the new information placed before the court warrants a reconsideration of Chauke’s continued detention pending the finalisation of his criminal case.
The State is expected to oppose the bail application.
Chauke’s fifth bail application comes after previous attempts to secure his release were unsuccessful.
The court is expected to hear arguments from both the defence and the State before making a determination on whether the accused should be released on bail.
