Mpumalanga Father Sentenced to 22 Years for Rape and Sexual Assault of His Daughters

A 43-year-old father has been sentenced to an effective 22 years of direct imprisonment by the Boschfontein Regional Court for the rape and sexual assault of his two biological daughters.

The sentencing, which took place on Monday, 05 October 2026, has been strongly welcomed by the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise.

The court heard details of two separate harrowing incidents that took place in 2022 at the family’s home.

On the the father molested his eldest daughter, who was 12 years old at the time.

And on the father raped his younger daughter, then aged 8, while she was sleeping in the same bed as both of her parents.

The horrific abuse only came to light two years later. Both incidents were officially reported to the Malelane Police Station on 18 October 2024, leading to the swift arrest of the perpetrator the following day.

The breakthrough in the case came through the meticulous work of the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. Investigating Officer Warrant Officer Dladla worked tirelessly alongside the prosecution team to gather the airtight evidence required to secure a conviction.

The court handed down the following sentences:l On count he was given 15 years direct imprisonment and count 2 he was handed 7 years direct imprisonment.

The court ordered that both sentences will run concurrently, and further ordered that the convict’s name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.

In accordance with South African law, the identity of the perpetrator is being withheld to protect the identities and privacy of the young victims.

Lieutenant General Modise praised the young victims, their support structure, and the investigative team for ensuring justice was served.

“This is a betrayal of trust by a father who was supposed to protect his own children,” Lieutenant General Modise said. “We welcome this lengthy sentence and the fact that a predator has been removed from society. We hope that this sentence sends a strong message that crimes against children will never be tolerated.”

Modise extended gratitude to the victims for their bravery, the family and the school for coming forward to report the abuse, and Warrant Officer Dladla for his thorough investigation.
