Ramaphosa’s Ankole Heifer Queen Arusha Sells For Record R6.4 Million
An in-calf Ankole heifer from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Ntaba Nyoni stud has sold for R6.4 million, setting a new South African record for a female animal across all cattle breeds.
Queen Arusha (NANK23 001) was Lot 20 at the Ntaba Nyoni & Friends auction held at Phala Phala, near Bela-Bela, on Saturday, 3 October. The buyer has not been identified.
Veilingswinkel chief operating officer JP Smith confirmed the sale price to Farmer’s Weekly.
Smith said the buyer was investing in the heifer’s future breeding value rather than simply buying the animal.
Ramaphosa’s interest in Ankole cattle began during a visit to Uganda in 2004, from where the foundation of his herd was established.
