Former Sekhukhune player Mogaila pleads guilty over fatal crash
Former Sekhukhune FC player Shaun Mogaila has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the fatal car crash that claimed the life of nine-year-old Gomolemo Mavimbela in Tembisa in October 2024.
Mogaila, 29, appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday and admitted guilt in connection with the crash, which occurred on Andrew Mapheto Road in the early hours of 30 October 2024.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, Mogaila admitted that the vehicle he was driving veered into oncoming traffic before colliding with another car carrying Gomolemo, her mother and a 13-year-old neighbour.
Gomolemo died, while the other two occupants suffered serious injuries and spent about two months in hospital.
Mogaila also admitted that he failed to render assistance after the crash and left the scene before handing himself over to police later that day.
Police reportedly found alcohol bottles and suspected drugs in his vehicle during the investigation.
The NPA welcomed the guilty plea, saying the conviction was an important step towards justice for Gomolemo and her family while also sparing the victims the emotional burden of a lengthy trial.
Mogaila was convicted on the charges following his guilty plea. The matter has been postponed to 17 November 2026 for sentencing proceedings.
