Dlamini-Zuma Takes Aim at ANC Internal Funding After Scoring High Court Victory
The African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee member Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has welcomed a High Court judgment that shifts her ongoing legal battle with the party’s Secretary-General toward a formal hearing of oral evidence.
The ruling, handed down by Acting Judge HM Viljoen, follows an application brought against Dlamini-Zuma by the ANC Secretary-General.
The application sought a court order to compel Dlamini-Zuma to retract and apologize for comments she previously made during an appearance on the African Renaissance Podcast.
In a public statement issued following the judgment, Dlamini-Zuma revealed that the High Court declined to grant the Secretary-General’s requested order. Instead, the court ruled that the central factual questions of the dispute must be determined through oral evidence and witness testimonies.
“I welcome the judgment which directs, as I respectfully submitted, that the matter is better determined by way of oral evidence,” Dlamini-Zuma stated, affirming her commitment to fully cooperate with the ongoing court processes.
While the court battle remains unresolved, Dlamini-Zuma used the opportunity to take a sharp jab at the internal dynamics of the ruling party.
“If the ANC is to renew itself, it must confront the use of money in its internal elective processes honestly,” she added.
Concluding her statement, Dlamini-Zuma noted that out of respect for the judiciary, she would no longer debate or argue the merits of the legal matter in the public domain.
