Thami Ndlala Foundation Demands Independent Investigation Into Police Conduct Following Public Allegations

The Thami Ndlala Foundation has issued a formal media statement calling for immediate accountability and an independent investigation into the conduct of South African Police Service (SAPS) officials at the Midrand Police Station.

The demand follows urgent court proceedings triggered by public allegations made against businessman Thami Ndlala by an individual identified as Mbombo.

According to the statement released by the Foundation, there are deep concerns regarding the handling of case file CAS 391/08/26.

The organisation alleges that proper policing procedures may have been bypassed in favour of an “arrest first, investigate later” approach.

The Foundation argues that an objective investigation prior to taking coercive action would have ultimately exonerated Ndlala.

Central to the Foundation’s grievances are claims of external influence and potential conflicts of interest.

The organisation stated it has received information suggesting that individuals connected to Mbombo and Tebogo Nokwane may have maintained improper access to or influence over the police officials assigned to the case.

The Foundation specifically noted the reported involvement of senior provincial law enforcement, including Acting Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Fred Kekana, citing an alleged association with Nokwane.

While the Foundation clarified that it is not making an outright finding of criminal misconduct against any specific police official, it maintained that the circumstances are severe enough to warrant an independent probe to rule out preferential treatment or inappropriate interference.

The Foundation further criticized the diversion of state resources during South Africa’s ongoing gender-based violence (GBV) crisis.

The statement emphasized that vital police capacity and the attention of senior law enforcement should be reserved for genuine victims requiring urgent protection, rather than being compromised by personal disputes or private agendas.

Addressing the broader impact of social media narratives, the organisation condemned the irresponsible use of public platforms to level serious criminal allegations without sufficient evidence.

The Foundation warned that circulating unsubstantiated claims can rapidly destroy a person’s livelihood, family, and reputation.

Concluding its statement, the Thami Ndlala Foundation called on all involved parties—including Mbombo, Nokwane, and the relevant SAPS officials—to desist from actions that promote a “trial by media.”

The organisation asserted that Ndlala is entitled to the presumption of innocence and demanded that law enforcement adhere strictly to due process, allowing verified facts to determine the final legal outcome.
