Sibiya Discloses Finances In Bail Affidavit
Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya has disclosed his finances in a bail affidavit, telling the Randburg Magistrate’s Court that he earns a gross monthly salary of R158,652.18 and takes home R83,382.75.
Sibiya said his income comes from his SAPS salary and a fluctuating income from a family business. He remains employed as a lieutenant-general despite being suspended pending internal disciplinary proceedings.
He disclosed two properties bought for a combined R3.35 million, one in Mnandi, purchased for R1.55 million in 2017, and another in Glen Austin, bought for R1.8 million in 2021.
He also listed five vehicles worth more than R1.2 million, including a Range Rover, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, GWM bakkie, Isuzu van and a Mercedes-Benz CLA 220 registered in his wife’s name.
The 59-year-old said he has lived in Centurion for about a decade and is the primary breadwinner for six children, as well as his elderly mother, aunt and a gardener. He also told the court that he suffers from high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol.
Sibiya was arrested on 21 September and faces charges including rpe, trafficking in persons, sxual grooming of a child and negligent handling of a firearm. He denies the allegations and has offered R20,000 bail, saying he is not a flight risk.
The State is opposing bail under Schedule 6 of the Criminal Procedure Act.
The bail hearing is expected to continue on Tuesday, 7 October. Sibiya also faces internal SAPS disciplinary proceedings linked to allegations arising from the Madlanga Commission.
