A 22-year-old female student found dead near University of Limpopo campus
POLOKWANE: Police in Mankweng have opened an inquest after the body of a 22-year-old woman was discovered along Sovenga Street, next to the University of Limpopo campus fence, on Sunday morning.
The woman was found at about 06:00 after police officers on patrol received information about a female lying motionless near the campus fence.
Police said officers rushed to the scene and found the woman partially clothed, with her head positioned inside a trench adjacent to the fence.
No visible external injuries were found on the body during an initial inspection.
A bag containing the deceased’s identity document and NSFAS card was also found next to her body.
Emergency Medical Services were summoned to the scene and declared the woman dead upon arrival.
Police said it is suspected that the woman may have accidentally fallen into the trench, but the exact circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.
Her identity has not yet been released, pending notification of her next of kin.
Police have opened an inquest docket and investigations are continuing.
