Pirates break silence on R20m fraud allegations
Orlando Pirates have broken their silence on a court application linked to allegations of fraud involving a former financial manager at the club.
The matter relates to allegations that payments amounting to R20 million were made in connection with certain financial transactions.
Pirates have approached the High Court seeking to preserve funds linked to the transactions while the matter is investigated.
The club stressed that the application is a precautionary step to protect its funds and does not constitute a finding of wrongdoing.
The individual concerned is reportedly cooperating with the process, with Pirates emphasising that it remains committed to ensuring a fair process for everyone involved.
The Buccaneers have also moved to reassure their supporters, sponsors and partners that the matter has not affected the club’s day-to-day operations.
“Day-to-day operations and commitments continue as normal,” the club said.
Pirates added that their focus remains on the team and the season ahead.
With the matter now before the court, the club said it would not comment further at this stage and would provide updates when it is able to do so.
