MK Party Files Criminal Case Against High Court Judge Over Corruption Allegations
The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) has officially opened a criminal case against acting Johannesburg High Court Judge Samuel Makamu following serious allegations of judicial corruption.
According to an official media statement released by the party, the case was registered at the Boksburg North Police Station at 17:00 on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
The criminal complaint stems from allegations that Judge Makamu solicited a bribe in connection with an application for leave to appeal.
The MK Party noted that the matter is already undergoing a judicial-conduct process and has been referred for further investigation.
Specific details outlined in the statement allege that an amount of R5,000 was paid regarding the appeal application.
Supporting evidence submitted in the judicial-conduct complaint reportedly includes WhatsApp communications and banking records. Judge Makamu has disputed the allegations.
The MK Party clarified that its actions do not constitute a declaration of guilt.
Instead, the party stated that the purpose of opening the criminal case is to ensure the allegations are placed before the appropriate law-enforcement authorities for a transparent and lawful investigation.
“The integrity and independence of the judiciary are essential to constitutional democracy,” the party stated, emphasizing that credible allegations regarding the misuse of judicial office must be investigated without fear or favour.
The MK Party has publicly called on Judge Makamu to step aside from his judicial duties for the duration of the investigation, urging an impartial inquiry to hold those responsible accountable if criminal conduct is established.
