A 40-year-old stepfather has been handed two life imprisonment sentences in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court for the repeated rape of his 14-year-old stepdaughter.

The final sentencing, which took place on 02 September 2026, concludes a lengthy legal battle to bring the perpetrator to justice.

The court heard that the harrowing ordeal came to light in November 2024 when the young girl confided in her mother.

The abuse occurred on two separate occasions when the victim was left under the direct care of her stepfather while her mother was away.

Following the disclosure, the family immediately reported the matter to the Katlehong Police Station, where an official case of rape was registered.

The case was handed over to Detective Sergeant Solomon Mashego of the Katlehong Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. Through rigorous investigative work, Mashego traced and successfully arrested the suspect.

The state strongly opposed bail during preliminary hearings, ensuring the accused remained in custody throughout the trial until his conviction.

According to reports by the Daily Sun, Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major-General Anna Sithole commended Detective Sergeant Mashego for his diligence, noting that the heavy sentence delivers a critical measure of closure and justice to the young victim and her family.

Official statements shared via the SAPS Facebook Page reaffirmed the South African Police Service’s hardline stance against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (EndGBVF), highlighting that local courts will continue to impose the harshest possible penalties on those who violate children.
