The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has announced that it is reviewing its scheduled social grant payment arrangements for November 2026 [2026-09-29]. The adjustment comes after a scheduling conflict with the upcoming Local Government Elections [2026-09-29].

In March 2026, SASSA initially released the approved payment dates for the 2026/2027 financial year [2026-09-29].

Under that original timeline, November payments were structured as follows [2026-09-29]:

03 November: Older Person’s Grant [2026-09-29], 04 November: Disability Grant [2026-09-29], 05 November: Children’s Grant [2026-09-29]and 06 November: Fourth-day payments for beneficiaries whose grants are currently under review [2026-09-29]

Following the initial March announcement, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared in May 2026 that the Local Government Elections will officially be held on 4 November 2026. Because election day falls directly on the scheduled date for the Disability Grant payment, SASSA has decided to alter the payment cycle to avoid disruptions.

SASSA is currently consulting with relevant stakeholders to finalize an alternative payment schedule [2026-09-29].

The agency stated that a new arrangement will be formally announced to the public in due course [2026-09-29].

Reassuring beneficiaries, SASSA concluded the statement by reiterating its ongoing commitment to paying the right social grant to the right person at the right time and place [2026-09-29].
