Afrika Mayibuye Movement mourns veteran broadcaster Mafosi Chauke
GIYANI – The Afrika Mayibuye Movement has expressed its condolences following the death of veteran Munghana Lonene FM broadcaster Mafosi “Try by Force” Chauke, who died in a motor vehicle accident over the weekend.
The movement described Chauke as a vibrant broadcaster who played an important role in promoting Xitsonga culture, language and music through the airwaves.
Afrika Mayibuye Movement National Spokesperson Sydney Baloyi, a former colleague of Chauke, paid tribute to the late broadcaster, describing him as a warm and joyful person who left a lasting impression on those who worked with him.
Baloyi said Chauke’s passion for Xitsonga music and culture extended beyond broadcasting, noting that he was previously a member of the Xitsonga music group Swibi swa Ndhuma.
“His deep love for Xitsonga music was never just about entertainment; it was a profound act of love for his culture, his language and his roots,” Baloyi said.
The movement also extended its condolences to Chauke’s family, colleagues and the management of Munghana Lonene FM.
It paid special tribute to his co-presenter, Quinton Baloyi, saying the pair had created a platform for cultural expression through “Timintsu Ta XiTsonga”.
The movement said Chauke’s death was a loss to the media industry and Xitsonga-speaking communities across South Africa.
